Half Nelson

I try to go to the movies often because it’s something that I love. Friday I went to see Half Nelson at the Angelika. Yeah, the one where you can hear and feel the subway at work under your feet. Always the highlight of the evening.

Half Nelson is the story of Daniel Dunn a school teacher with a dangerous drug addiction who is one evening discovered by Drey, a student, in the school bathroom getting high. From this secret an unlikely bond and friendship form. The film was directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden. It follows the friendship as it progresses and the decisions that both make while also trying to help each other.  The film could have gone in a few different directions but instead it chose to keep it simple. It leaves the audience in many ways to figure out the details of Dan’s life and why he has chose the path. You only get a pick into his life when you meet his family but after seeing their interaction you have a better understanding of who Dan is. The same can be said of Drey whose mother is an EMT who works more then she is home as having brother in jail.

I like that there was realness about the film that I could sort of relate to and it didn’t try play the black/white card too much by validating one character’s problems more then other. The film like I mentioned before leaves a  lot of open spots for the viewer to piece together but doesn’t make so that the viewer can’t. Ryan Gosling as usual in my book gives a great performance and just about blow any actor young or old out of the water. And I am not just saying this becasue I want to birth his children. Shareeka Epps, I feel doesn’t even act she seems like she’s being herself and the camera just happen to be shooting which is a good thing because it’s totally convincing. You sometimes forget that this is make believe because Ryan and Shareeka play so well off each other.

The film doesn’t make you pity and of these characters because they have the will to make their own decisions but it show you how, this may sound cheesy because I totally stole this Chase, the right relationship is everything especially in the case of Dan and Drey who need each more than they know.

Take those Harry Winstons and stick ’em up your nose!

Vincent is a freakin’ idiot! No Talent!! No Class! I really hate that bitch. And I really wished that Laura would have punched him the face but she told told him like it was and that’s what you get when mess with a woman with 5 kids. Laura takes shit from no one. No one!! I still can’t believe that bitch has 5 kids. Amazing.

This post is a bit late because unfortunately I had my wisdom teeth take out and I was sedated. But it’s not like anyway reads my blog anyway.

If you have half a brain you should be very angry about the results of Wednesday’s show. And if you don’t know Alison was vote out. Over who you say? Someone who should have been voted off weeks ago…….Vincent. Yes, Vincent is still there. Why? Because there is no god. I really don’t understand how Vincent even made it on to the show. That man is on another freakin’ planet. He has no sense of style and he is terrible designer as well out of his mind. Vincent and Angela should have been the bottom two but suprisingly Angela was safe. Don’t even get me started on Angela. Obviously, I am the only one that saw that outfit of garbage she made. Don’t even get me started on her.

Alison has been pretty consistent in her designs and she has never been at the bottom. Are the judges not taking into consideration her past work? They should. Vincent has constantly gotten bad reviews of his designs don’t you think its about time that he be sent home. I really wish I understood the judges and what they are thinking. I can’t believe some of the things that came out of Heidi’s mouth. I think I lost a little bit of respect for her if not all. Don’t even get me started on Nina and Michael Kors. I hate them both. They can eat a bowl of dicks And that Rachel Zoe WTF. She’s not that great of a stylist I mean she basically dresses all her clients like her. But whatever, I digress.

I really don’t understand what is going this season but so far I am not happy. I am just in shock about Alison being out even Laura, who because she doesn’t hold her tounge and thats why I like her even had a little bit to say and she was right. I really don’t understand at all. She was a good designer, way better then Vincent. People are saying that they are trying to keep for that whole Santino effect but I don’t really think Vincent is that entertaining to watch. I really believe that the judges are not taking past challenges in consideration or really seeing the talent that people like Malan and Alison possess and they throw all out the window for one slip up. The judges really need to rethink their strategy and make the right decisions.

I am just about to give up on this damn show. Seriously. Check out Tim Gunn’s take. He was just as shocked.

Here It Goes Again

I like Ok Go. I am not saying that are some amazing band but they are fun and very entertaining. A lot people came to know of them from the ‘A Million Ways’ video. That was actually a great video. Now they have new video which is even better. Seriously. I am sure you have heard about or seen this video at some point. If you haven’t then you are a loser. If you have, then I am loser. So there, we are even. But still watch it anyway. Trust this will put a smile on your face. Enjoy!

My weekend at the movies

This weekend I saw two really great movies as well as hung out with awesome people. On Saturday I saw Little Miss Sunshine. It was really good. I had been having high expectations for this movie for a long time. I was afraid that it was going to be one of those movie where all the great parts are in the trailer but that was only a tease. The movie was so good. It was very very funny. Apparently, my friends and I and the guy in front of us who seemed be sucking on an egg earlier were the only people who thought it was funny. Those muthabitches known as the rest of the audience barely let out a chuckle. I mean, were we watching the same damn movie? Seriously.

Well, LMS as you may know is a family travels to a beauty pagent in which the young daugther, Olive has at the last minute got a spot in. From the beginning you can tell that this cute pudgy little girl is not pagent material but you know are gonna root for anyway. The family in all its screwed up glory is very supportive. Throughout the trip you see this is a family who needs each more then they would like to admit and towards the end they are able to realize this. The cast was pretty great especially Alan Arkin. Holy crap, was that man hilarious. Paul Dano who played the brother was pretty great too and he only had like 5 lines in the movie. The film was able to be touching and funny at the same time.  You root for each character and feel bad when their dreams don’t come true.  It was the right amount of humor and the right amount of sweetness.  Anyone who tells the movie wasn’t good can “suck on this!”.

I also saw Brothers of the Head. That was really good as well. It a fake documentary about the Siamese twins who become punk rock stars. For me it fell short of the documentary feel it was going for but nonetheless it was still a great film. I think I have a crush Luke and Harry Treadaway who play twins. The music was all original music and it was pretty good as well. I am contemplating getting the soundtrack. It was great story although some of it has been done before in movies of this sort. The drugs, the booze, the girl, the fall but nonetheless still well done.  Luke and Harry Treadaway who portray the twins Tom and Barry Howe are great together.  They both bring a sadness and a sensitivity to each of the characters they play. Overall, the film was well done and entertaining.

If you can you are willing to have your wallet raped of 11 bucks I highly recommend both. Check the New York Times for a some good reviews.

Always gotta mess up a good thing.

I am aware that Project Runway aired one day ago and this is late but it’s not like anyone is actually reading my blog.

Keith, Keith, Keith. You jackass! How could you be so simple? You let your cockiness and shady businesses get in the way and complete f%*ked up a good thing. Yes, you were an asshole that can’t be denied but bitch you had talent. Oh, Keith, Keith, Keith I hate to say but got what you deserved. Let this a lesson to you that being a shady bitch is not for everyone. I just can’t believe how royally you took it up that ass. Carry on.

Go here to see Keith’s exit interview. You kinda feel bad for the guy.

Now, I still don’t like Angela. I stil haven’t gotten over the fact that they sent Malan aka Dracula home instead of ‘ I don’t sketch’ Angela. And let’s not forget those goddamn rosettes. I mean seriously. Who the f%&k is she? Well, she won this week’s challenge but I believe that if she didn’t have Michael and Laura(she’s a bitch but she’s quite hilarious) that bitch have and by the power Jesus been sent home. But no, there is no God because that chick is still here. Stick a hot poker in my eye why don’t you? My friend made a comment “She’s like the Wendy Pepper/Kara Janx of the season” you can never quite figure out she makes that far. Because there is no God either that or he’s a mean mutha.

It was sad to go Bonnie go but deep down I think I was rooting for Robert. I was utterly shocked at what Robert made. What. The. Hell! OMG, Robert! You had me taking Vincent’s side and that fool is another one on my list. Robert made that wonderful dress the first challenge so what in God’s/Allah’s/Buddah’s holy name were you thinking maybe Vinnie’s cooties rubbed off on you. I wish I knew. ROBERT!!! Make it work!

I have realized that I hold a special place in my heart for little Bradley.

Oh, God I love this freakin’ show so much.
